Teacher Appreciation

Teacher Appreciation Week is complete for 2014! This year was difficult to choose from, so many awesome ideas and to see how we could top last year. I think we did an amazing job! This year we started off by making each of the teachers a special door cover for their classroom, then we made a staff board to represent the entire staff. At our school we honor Staff Appreciation, not just teachers.  This week was a total hit!

The Door Covers:

Popcorn, movie buckets! This year we put together popcorn buckets with the person's favorite candy/snack. These were fun and very simple. I made the signs from this download: http://the-lilypad.com/store/Movie-Night.html
After I cut out the signs, I laminated them and cut them again. Then I taped them to wooden sticks that I found at Wal-Mart in the craft isle. The popcorn buckets are from The Dollar Tree.

Because the popcorn buckets were too small for bag of popcorn, I decided to make a cute jar and fill them with popcorn kernels. I collect baby jars as they make great craft projects. I found this label online: http://idmommy.blogspot.com/2011/01/diy-circus-carnival-themed-birthday.html
I printed out the popcorn labels and they just happened to fit around baby jars perfectly! I taped them onto the jars. I didn't want to use glue as sometimes that makes paper bumpy or discolors it. Then I wanted to cover the lids in a cute, but not difficult way. I had some pretty red fabric that had stars on it as a design. I decided to use one of my Creative Memories shape cutters. This wavy shape made it the fabric work easier around the lid. Once I had the fabric pieces cut out, I just placed it over the lid and put a rubber band on it. FIY: Michael's craft store carries colored rubber bands in case you would like yours to match. The popcorn jar fit perfectly into the bucket. Then I just placed the candy and snacks into the bucket. And Voila!  They are so cute. The teachers loved them!

Fingerprint plates are the cutest idea! Teachers and staff love them, it gives them something personal and lets the children be involved. I spent a week at the school along with another mom and we took the children's fingertips and decorated one for each Teacher/Classroom and one for all the rest of the staff. 73 plates in all!
I used acrylic paint and sharpie markers. I used the advice from others online that claim you can bake a dollar store plate with this paint and marker on it and it won't come off. But I do have to advise that this is unfortunately not true. It is good to bake them because it makes it harder to scrub off. But if you make plates like this, you should make them for display only. We found that with the paint or even just a baby wipe, the sharpie comes off, even after baking. The paint will also chip if not careful. So when choosing your supplies, choose carefully. They do however make awesome display gifts!

My Favorite gift of all!! I saw these gum ball machines online, as well as the pencil cans. I decided to make the gum ball machines look like a pencil to match the pencil cans. I purchased the flower pots and lids from Home Depot and painted them yellow. I found the knobs at JoAnn Fabrics and painted them black. I bought the glass bowls from The Dollar Tree. I used E600 Glue to glue the gum ball machines together.

The Pencil cans were so much fun!! I used the instructions from this website: http://www.defininghopes.com/diy-teachers-gift-super-sized-pencil/
I asked the community to donate the Pringles cans with lids. I used regular yellow, black and pink construction paper. I found tan card stock at Michael's craft store. The shiny silver paper I found at JoAnne Fabrics in big sheets that I had to cut and trim. It also has adhesive on the back, so all I had to do was peel and stick.
Because I didn't have anything to go inside the pencil cans, I decided to make them piggy banks. After the lids are constructed, cut out the middle of the lid and then make a slit on the pencil tip big enough for a quarter. The cans say "Mrs. .... is No. 1"

Teacher Appreciation Week 2013! Our parents group at our school is heading up the Teacher Appreciation Week and I'm one of the parents in charge of it this year. I'm so excited, it's so much fun! There are SO many ideas. We also have quite a large staff and a budget so that can get tricky. Here is one gift we are giving to the Office Staff (minus the teacher note). I found this on Pinterest (of course!). I bought all my supplies at Wal-Mart.

I just think this is the cutest thing!! The picture on pinterest had actual "Post-it" notes, I used Wal-mart ones as they were cheaper and we have to do a lot for a lot of people. These sticky notes were $2.97 for the larger ones and $1.87 for the smaller ones. (Side note: I found some at the dollar store later 2 pk with various colors) The ribbon is also from Walmart and they were both 2.97 per roll (9ft roll makes about 3 of these gifts). The post-it teacher note I used the printable online. I won't be using it, I just put it on for the effect. I'm going to use another post-it to make a note for the staff we're giving them to. And I put a pen on the ribbon because why gift post-its and not have a pen to write with right? I just LOVE this!! Did I say that already?
Here is the lady that I got this from (this is where the Pin led me):

The ribbon used on her blog I found at Hobby Lobby in case you want to use the same one she did :)
I'll be posting the other things we are making so be sure to check back! And have fun supporting all those awesome teachers out there!! :D
